A Wedding to Remember!

This was such a fun weekend! I had a wedding cake that I did, that ended up being gorgeous.  The bride wanted something that was simple and elegant, but yet different than the traditional cakes that you see.  So what I created was a three tier cake, covered in white fondant.  I added white piping around the edges. I took square vases and coordinated with the florist and added lilies in the vases, and placed the vases on the cakes, and then placed each tier on top of the vase with a board under the cake.  By doing this it added height to the cake and architectural design.  The florist also added red roses to the corners of the cakes, which add amazing color.  The cake was stunning!
The bride and groom loved it!

Birthday Time!!

I thought this week I would show you a birthday cake I did for a little girl turning two years old.  Her mother wanted it to look very girly.  So I thought polka dots! What I did was a two tier cake covered in white fondant.  Then I wanted to add color to it. I took bright pink and turquoise fondant and made different sized polka dots with them.  I applied them with Royal Icing, so that they would for sure not move.  Something I thought would be fun to do is add fondant balls to the bottom of the cake, and where the two tiers meet.  So I made white, turquoise and pink balls.  I did them in different sizes so that it would match with the polka dots and add some depth to the cake.  Another fun element that I added to the cake was the topper.  I took some craft paper and spelled her name out and then placed each letter on a succor stick.  I also had the sticks going in a zigzag line to add even more depth to the cake.

The mother the loved the cake! It is exactly what she wanted for her little girl.  The little girl also loved it.  When she saw it she said it reminded her of Mickey Mouse.  I was so excited that they liked the cake! It is always a relief when they say it exactly what they wanted.

The Great Beginning

Hey! Since this is my first post I thought I would share with you some of the cakes I have done in the past. I love doing cakes for a lot of different occasions. I have done baby shower cakes, wedding cakes, and birthday cakes.
This is a Wedding Cake that I made in May of 2011.  The Bride wanted something classy, but different.  She didn’t want it to busy but she wanted some details on it. So what I did was make a three tier cake with white fondant.  I then took her colors, blue and orange, and went around the edges with ribbon. By doing this it gave the cake the pop of color that it needed, and made it fit into the rest of her wedding. How did I add detail to the cake without it being too busy?  I took white royal frosting, which is a frosting that gets hard overtime, and made dots in a triangular formation on top of the white fondant. This gave it the perfect amount of texture that the cake needed.
The Bride and Groom loved this cake! Their eyes lit up when they saw it. That is the best part of making cakes.  When you can tell that you did your job right and that you met your client’s expectations it makes it all worth it.
